Attendance at General Meeting - 18 Club Membership - Club membership remains at 60. Treasurer's Report - Jorn Dakin distributed and discussed the club's October financial report which showed a year-to-date income of $1,292.00, year-to-date expenses of $1,828.51,and a current checking balance of $1,864.91. The Treasurer's report was accepted without amendment. Disk Sales - Total sales came to $8.00 for one 8-bit disk and two PC disks. General Discussion - A motion was raised to set the club dues for next year at the current level ($22.00). This motion was seconded and approved by the Board. We discussed the need to identify a Nominating Committee Chairman for next year's elections and develop a list of who is running for which positions. We talked about the December swap meet and the need to effectively get the word out regarding this meeting. The option of expanding the swap meet to include a repair and upgrade clinic was discussed. In fact, we noted that the meeting should probably emphasize the "free" clinic and only tout the swap meet as a nice extra. The deadline submission for the November Cursor is October 31. Plans for Future Meetings - Lance Cutler told Mike that his brother-in-law is ready to demo FrontPage 98 at the November meeting. Lance also indicated he would like some help installing Red Hat Linux on his machine. Mike agreed to contact Lance to let him know that we look forward to his brother-in-law's demo. Geof agreed to run a help clinic for Lance at the November meeting. It was agreed that Mike will walk through his interactive CD on "How Computers Work" at the November meeting. This CD allows you to fly into a computer and view summary and detailed descriptions of the component parts of a typical home computer. Mike will also walk through an interactive CD which came with "Upgrading and Repairing PCs" which he is currently reviewing for an article in the Cursor. This CD shows the book's author performing a number of "routine" tasks such as installing a new hard drive and doing a memory upgrade. The latter CD will serve as a lead in for several hands-on demos which Alex and others will present on such common upgrades as installing memory, sound cards, and video cards. We agreed that the November meeting might have the kind of broad appeal that will attract potential new members to the club. Geof agreed to follow the standard means for getting the word out including placing meeting notices in the local journals. Meeting adjourned
