Washington Area Commodore User Group Minutes of the Board of Directors Meeting 18 September 1999 Board Meeting Attendance - Jorn Dakin, Geof Goodrum, Bob Mason, Kathy Perrin, Lu Spriggs, Mike ten Kate, and Bill Walsh Minutes - Minutes from the August board meeting were read. Minutes were amended to remove the reference to Bob Mason's discovery that the club owed him $8 in overpaid disk sales from the July meeting. Bob discovered this after the August board meeting. Minutes were approved as amended. Comments on General Meeting - Very good meeting with a presentation on Road Runner high speed internet access and a demo of Microsoft Publisher by Lance Cutlar and Kathy Perrin. Attendance at General Meeting - A very healthy 35. Treasurer's Report - August report accepted without amendment. Disk Sales/Membership Status - August disk sales came to $41(13 PC disk sets and one give-away as a door prize). Bob took deducted the $8 due him and gave Jorn Dakin $33. Membership now stands at 63. General Discussion - Bob agreed to follow-up with MalekTips (a web-based computer tips site) which has offered to make its tips available for publication in our newsletter in return for a link to the site on our web page. Geof Goodrum noted that he had just mailed a letter to PatriotNet regarding sponsoring the club's web and email hosting needs. Bob noted that he will give Kathy Perrin 100 color inserts for next month's Cursor which provide details on his Learning Center Partnership (a computer training class for local area youth) which he is running for the county. Geof pointed out that Alex Goodale believes the 8-bit and Amiga SIGs may be on their last legs. He is simply running out of new material in these areas. Future Meetings - It was agreed that the theme for the October meeting will be "killer" shareware. Mike ten Kate agreed to present a number of shareware programs including the ClipMate program from Thornsoft. Bob said he could demo his favorite shareware as well. We agreed to coordinate by email on the specifics of the meeting. Mike noted that he had not yet received a reply from the Hewlett-Packard representative who indicated she might be able to demo some HP products for us. Mike agreed to follow-up with her. We briefly discussed some options for later meetings including a presentation on DSL from Bell Atlantic, encryption software, the StarOffice Suite, and CD-R/RW technology. Meeting adjourned
