Washington Area Computer User Group Minutes of the Board of Directors Meeting February 10, 2001 Board Meeting Attendance - Geof Goodrum, Paul Howard, Bob Mason, Kathy Perrin, Robert Rott, Lu Spriggs, and Mike ten Kate Minutes - Minutes from the November and January board meetings were reviewed and approved without amendment. Comments on General Meeting - Bob Mason stepped into a role performed by Alex Goodale in past years and provided a comprehensive look at TaxACT. Attendance at General Meeting - Meeting attendance was 33. Treasurer's Report/Other Financial Business - This represented the first meeting where Robert Rott took over as club Treasurer from the retiring Jorn Dakin. Thanks to Jorn for many years of service as club Treasurer! PC disk sales came to $82.00 for January and February including $12.00 which remains due from John Coyle. John Coyle owes an additional $9.00 for a Linux CD he purchased. Geof gave Bob Rott $572.00 in January and February receipts representing dues from 26 new or renewing members. We talked about getting multiple signatories for the club's checking account. It was agreed that Bob Mason and Robert Rott should be added to the list of authorized signatories. The Board approved the expenditure of up to $1,500 to allow Bob to purchase a new laptop for the club. The Board also approved the expenditure of up to $40.00 to allow Bob to purchase two copies of WordPerfect 2000 for club newsletter production. Cursor Production/Web Site News/Software Reviews - Jim Spurlock has agreed to share the responsibility for producing the Cursor on an alternating month schedule with Kathy Perrin. Thanks to Kathy for her prior service as full-time editor! Bob noted that he will work with Jim to help him get out his first edition of the Cursor. Geof Goodrum gave Paul Howard, our new webmaster, the passwords to the WAC site. Thanks to Geof for his prior service as webmaster! The list of outstanding software reviews is as follows. Drive Image 4.0 (Assigned to Bob Mason in October. Review was due by the January Cursor.) Microsoft TechNet CD (Assigned to Jim Spurlock in November. Review was due by the February Cursor.) General Discussion - Bob noted that it turns out the club will not be able to obtain access to the county's projector for future WAC meetings as was previously thought. Future Meetings - The March meeting will focus on instructional software with Bob Mason taking the lead on preparing the program. Mike ten Kate agreed to make a presentation on "Web Design Power Tools" at the April meeting. This presentation is slated to include Dreamweaver 4, Fireworks 4, and Photoshop 6. The idea was also discussed of Geof developing a presentation on "Linux for the Masses" highlighting some of the recent user interface breakthroughs which promise to make Linux easy enough for the average Joe to use.
